Guns with a History
The message that needs to be conveyed is the true interpretation of the 2nd amendment to the Constitutions’ Bill of Rights.
Amendment II, Right to bear arms: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
This was a ratification brought about in December 1791. It is not, and should not be, about what the words mean today. It’s about historical context. The real question is not only what the 18th century framers meant by “militia” ( which is not needed today), but what they meant by “arms”.
It was written when only flintlock muskets and blunderbusses, and maybe the crude handguns were available. This was before the innumerable types of guns easily accessible today (AK-47’s and so many other automatic weapons, guns with rocket launching capabilities, etc., etc). This was before the invention and introduction of flack jacket and metal piercing bullets, etc.).
And . . . this was before the weapons manufacturers (who make billions throughout the world); and the NRA financed and paid for the lobbyists’ and politicians to pass even the basic and rudimentary of laws to help stem this madness!
This amendment must be updated, not eliminated as the NRA wants gun owners to believe.
Also, does someone really need a semi-automatic weapon to hunt and kill Bambies, or make up for any psychological (or physiological) shortcomings?!
